The exhibition timelines presents a body of work by artist Estefanía Peñafiel Loaiza, resulting from a constantly renewed attempt to “capture” or “follow” light, understood both in terms of the technical processes employed and as poetic gestures.

Whether she films the fragility of an exchange illuminated by the sun’s rays breaking stealthily through a window, or tracks the imprint of a photograph by following the scroll of a scanner lamp, her images are marked by the very transience of their appearance, and bear the mark of a sometimes absurd effort to accompany a fading light.

This exhibition also marks a return to her roots, a journey both real and imaginary to Ecuador, the artist’s country of origin, and a meditation on the weight of transmission. The fragments of images she recomposes in this exhibition are drawn from her personal archives. Trying to delve as “deeply” as possible into a family memory, Estefanía breaks the images open to reveal the ghosts imprinted by the light, as well as those that have surfaced throughout her quest.
