the episodic space

2014, in situ installation (Crédac ‐ Manufacture des Œillets), peelable varnish

A layer of varnish was applied on the floor in different rooms of the Manufacture des Œillets (an old factory in Ivry-sur-Seine which now holds the Crédac Arts Centre). Once dried, the varnish was removed as a “skin” keeping the prints, shapes and colours left by the previous uses of this space, as if they were episodes peeled off from the place’s history. Some of these “skins” were completely peeled off and exposed folded over the floor or placed on an old drawing table, while others still covered part of the surface area and were only removed once the exhibition was dismantled, carrying in them the footprints of the continuous coming and going of the visitors.
